Mental Health and wellbeing
Mental Health and Wellbeing
At St. Joseph’s, we understand that the mental health and wellbeing of our children are paramount. In today’s fast-paced world, it is crucial that we equip our students with the positive strategies and tools they need to manage their emotions and build resilience—skills that will serve them well now and throughout their lives. We are committed to fostering a supportive environment where mental health is prioritized.
How We Support Mental Health and Wellbeing
- Mental Health and Wellbeing Ambassadors:
We have appointed Mental Health and Wellbeing Ambassadors within our school community. These ambassadors are trained children who promote mental health awareness, provide peer support, and help create a positive school culture. They serve as role models, encouraging open conversations about mental health and reducing stigma. - Workshops:
Throughout the year, we organize workshops focused on various aspects of mental health and wellbeing. These interactive sessions cover topics such as stress management, mindfulness, emotional regulation, and coping strategies. Our aim is to provide students with practical skills they can apply in their daily lives. - Focused Days and Weeks:
We dedicate specific days and weeks to highlight the importance of mental health. These events include activities such as "Mental Health Awareness Week," where children participate in themed lessons, discussions, and activities designed to promote positive mental health practices. - Zones of Regulation:
We implement the Zones of Regulation program, which helps children identify their feelings and develop self-regulation skills. Through this framework, children learn to recognize their emotional states (such as feeling happy, sad, or frustrated) and explore strategies to manage their emotions effectively. This program empowers children to take charge of their wellbeing. - PSHE/RSE Lessons:
Our Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) lessons incorporate mental health education. We cover essential topics such as self-esteem, empathy, healthy relationships, and coping with challenges. These lessons provide a foundation for emotional literacy and resilience.
Fostering a Supportive Environment
We believe that mental health education is vital in helping children navigate life’s ups and downs. By equipping them with positive strategies, we aim to create a culture of openness and support where children feel safe to express their emotions and seek help when needed.
