Keep Ourselves Safe

At St. Joseph’s, we recognize that teaching our children how to keep themselves safe is a vital part of their educational journey. We are committed to providing students with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate both the physical and online worlds safely. Through a comprehensive approach, we ensure that our curriculum is relevant and up-to-date with the challenges of the modern world we live in.

Key Elements of Our Safety Education

  1. PSHE/RSE Lessons:
Our Personal, Social, Health, and Economic (PSHE) education and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) lessons are designed to equip children with essential life skills. These lessons cover a range of topics, including personal safety, healthy relationships, consent, and emotional well-being. We focus on creating an open and safe environment where children can discuss these important topics confidently.
  2. Workshops:
Throughout the year, we organize workshops that address various aspects of safety, including internet safety, bullying prevention, and mental health awareness. These interactive sessions provide children  with practical strategies to stay safe and build resilience in different situations.
  3. NSPCC Resources:
We collaborate with the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) to deliver tailored resources and programs. Their expertise helps us teach children about their rights, recognizing unsafe situations, and how to seek help if needed. The “Speak Out, Stay Safe” program empowers our pupils with knowledge and confidence.
  4. Online Safety Curriculum:
As technology plays a significant role in our children’s lives, we have integrated a comprehensive online safety curriculum. This includes lessons on protecting personal information, recognizing online risks, and understanding the importance of digital footprints. We aim to equip children  with the skills to navigate the online world responsibly and safely.

Staying Relevant in a Modern World

To ensure that our curriculum remains relevant, we continually review and update our teaching materials and resources to reflect current trends and challenges. We also encourage parents to engage in conversations about safety at home and to reinforce the lessons learned at school.
